The People Behind the Places: Sustainability

Sustainability is an increasingly important part of how we manage, improve and future-proof the places in our portfolio. At Form Property, our Sustainability Team works across assets and clients to deliver reporting, performance improvement and sustainability services that support long-term environmental and social value.

Meet the team:

Fatima Mohammed: Head of Sustainability

Mallika Raj: Sustainability Consultant

Amy Preece: Sustainability Consultant

What does your role at Form involve day to day?

Fatima Mohammed:
I oversee the sustainability performance of our managed property portfolio, ensuring effective reporting, building performance monitoring, and the delivery of sustainability initiatives across our assets.

I also lead carbon reporting and net zero services for major clients, while driving the growth of our Sustainability Services offering into areas including Build to Rent (BTR), residential, and new service development.

Mallika Raj:
I work closely with our external clients, so no two days are the same. A lot of my time is spent communicating with clients, developing processes, tools and guidance to help them keep up with changing sustainability legislation, and working with teams to identify practical ways to decarbonise their buildings and operations.

Amy Preece:
I deliver client projects, research, tenders, reports, strategy, writing policies, SOP's, consultancy calls, project management, accreditation projects and property audits.

What do you enjoy most about working in your team?

Fatima Mohammed:
What I enjoy most about working with my team is how engaged they are with the continuously changing sustainability landscape.

"Everyone has their finger on the pulse, keeping up with new market updates, industry trends, and emerging best practice, which means we're constantly challenging ourselves, pushing boundaries, and staying ahead of the curve." - Fatima Mohammed

Mallika Raj:
I love that my role gives me the chance to work with almost every department across the business. Every team has a different perspective/challenge, so I'm constantly learning something new. It's also really rewarding when our work helps make someone else's job a little easier.

Amy Preece:
I like implementing things that really make a difference on people and communities, like supporting social mobility by giving out real industry exposure through roles and placements, and implementing good employment principles to make people happier at work. The quality of workplace practices has a real link to our life outcomes and mental health. I love seeing figures translated to reality - ESG can seem quite abstract but doing litter picking projects, working with DripDrop and seeing the number of bottles removed from the ocean, or working with charity partners like JustLife and seeing the real-life stories are very impactful.

What’s one thing people might not realise about your role?

Fatima Mohammed:
One thing people might not realise is just how much of sustainability is driven by data. A lot of my role involves reporting, analysing performance, and working with spreadsheets.

"Most importantly, we take that data and turn it into practical actions that improve building performance and create a better experience for occupiers. That's where the real value lies - using data to drive meaningful, measurable change." - Fatima Mohammed

Mallika Raj:
People often assume sustainability is about creating extra work, but it's usually the opposite. My job is to streamline processes so sustainability becomes part of everyday decisions, rather than another task on someone's to-do list. It's a bit like sneaking vegetables into a kid's meal, you don't always notice them, but they make things better in the long run!

Amy Preece:
A large part of our work involves delivering ESG support for other businesses, so the impact of that work is not always immediately visible within Form itself. Through our external client portfolio, our work reaches organisations with more than 250 employees, many of whom deliver services across thousands of social homes. That means the decisions, policies and improvements we support can have a much wider reach, including into communities facing significant social and economic challenges.

What excites you about the future of your industry?

Fatima Mohammed:
Sustainability is and will remain a real dynamic conversation starter within the property industry. It not only creates opportunities to shape better places, but it can be a powerful tool to interject into new markets through knowledge sharing. It creates a new space to grow our business from the traditional property management context. I'm also excited to see sustainability continue to grow within the Build to Rent (BTR) and residential sectors. There's huge potential to make a meaningful impact, and it's an area I'm looking forward to helping develop further.

Mallika Raj:
The industry is moving at a really exciting pace. We're becoming much more focused on actions that deliver real impact rather than ticking boxes.

"Expectations and scrutiny are increasing, but so is the opportunity to make meaningful progress towards a more sustainable future." - Mallika Raj

Amy Preece:
I’m excited by the growing focus on community impact and making social value more measurable and meaningful. I’m particularly passionate about improving outcomes for 16–18-year-olds who may lack social capital or access to professional networks. I think the industry is moving towards asking for clearer evidence of outcomes, rather than just policies, processes or commitments.

"For me, supporting progression from school age, and creating structured routes into the industry, feels much more powerful than focusing only on employment quotas without the support systems needed behind them." - Amy Preece
